TNO - BIKING TO WORK REDUCES ABSENTEEISM

Employees who regularly bike to work are sick less often. In a year, they call in sick a full day less than their non-biking colleagues. If employers in the Netherlands actively encourage biking to work, this could save them 27 million annually, TNO research shows. For this study, they assumed an active employed population of 7.4 million people with an average of 280 Euros of absenteeism costs per day. Of the 799 participating employees, 32% often bikes to work (at least 3 times a week). Their health proved to be the most important reason to bike to work. (Do you not have the opportunity to bike to work? Then bike AT work, with the deskbike.)
